The Inspired HR Roundup - Neonatal Care Leave, New Podcast Episode & More!
The Department for Business and Trade has confirmed that thousands of working families with babies in neonatal care will be entitled to additional time off as a day one right. The government has laid regulations to implement the change, which subject to Parliamentary approval, will take effect from 6th April 2025 and follows the passing of the Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Act in 2023.
Neonatal Care Leave will apply to parents of babies who are admitted into neonatal care up to 28 days old and who have a continuous stay in hospital of seven full days or longer. These measures will allow eligible parents to take up to 12 weeks of leave on top of any other leave they may be entitled to, including maternity and paternity leave.
Alongside the leave entitlement, Statutory Neonatal Care Pay will be available to those who meet requirements and a minimum earnings threshold.
So what does this mean for businesses?
Firstly, you will need to ensure your policies are updated. We would also recommend speaking to your HR team (if you have one) and managers so they can handle any new requests sensitively and effectively. Finally, ensure you communicate this new entitlement to your employees.
If you require assistance with policy changes or require us to run a training session to address management queries that may arise then please get in touch.
Please note, retained clients will automatically receive updated HR policies.
